Speaker: Ps. Ferdy Tjahjadi

“Blessed those who hunger and thirst for the word of God”

* At times when we are waiting for God’s plan and His promises to happen in our life, the devil is not stand still. The enemy will always try to destroy the perfect plan of God.

o Distractions

o Hopeless

o Impossibility

o Fear for future

o Laziness

Matthew 5:6 – “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.”

o The righteousness according to the word of God

* John 17:17 – “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”

“Why are we called “blessed”, by reading the word of God?”

1. The word of God is the truth

o We should not see the truth by what we see with our eyes.

o Only the word of God is the truth

o When we are struggling, what we see is not what is in front of us; but instead, see what God says – “May he send you help from the sanctuary and grant you support from Zion.” (Psalm 20:2). He said He will support you when we need help. Hence, don’t get frustrated by the difficult situation in front of you.

2. The word of God cleanse and sanctify us.

o With problems that we have to face every day, our minds and heart get polluted.

o This is exactly what the devil wants – for us to be influenced by bad things happening around us, for us to eventually lose hope in God.

o However, when we read the word of God, God is purifying us from all the negative thoughts. Just like running water, He is cleansing our mind, from the “pollution” that we get every day.

Ephesians 5:25-26 – “ to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word”

3. The Lord’s mighty hand will be with you to keep you

Ezra 7:6, 9-10 – “ this Ezra came up from Babylon. He was a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which the LORD, the God of Israel, had given. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the LORD his God was on him. He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. 10 For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.

o Ezra was hungry for the word of God. Because of that, God’s hand was always with him, granted everything he asked.

o When we are hungry for the word of God, the Holy Spirit will walk us everything to His plan. Just like the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire guide Israelites on when to walk and when to stop. (Exodus 13:21 – “By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.”)

4. The Father and Jesus will be in our life, and the Holy Spirit will become our reminder

o How are we going to obey the word of God if we never read the word of God? And how God will be with us in our life?

John 14: 23-24, 26 – ”Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
